Nourishment to your soul
“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”
NELSON MANDELA
OUR STORY
The founder of Nourish Every Child has always been passionate about international maternal child health, poverty and the resultant orphan crisis. While working to eradicate preventable maternal death in Haiti with the organization Midwives for Haiti and during her journey of adopting her orphan son from Ethiopia, she became passionate about keeping impoverished families together. Many families are faced with the impossible decision of placing their children in orphanages because they cannot afford to feed them, let alone educate them. Our organization aims to support these families by providing scholarship to impoverished children, including school tuition, uniform, books and a meal a day. For most of these children this is their only daily meal. This small scholarship has an enormous impact allowing families to stay intact.

WHY WE DO IT
If not us, then who? We are but a drop in the ocean, but if every drop didn’t show up there would be no ocean. Our actions may be small but the ripple effect keeps us working. We see these children year after year, growing, thriving, full of hope. Children that began the program with physical symptoms of malnutrition now growing and thriving. Gaining emotional and physical strength, filled with pride as they complete another school year. This is why we do what we do.

We also found as mothers that sponsoring a child was something our children could personally relate to. Our children have looked at the photos of the Haitian children we have sponsored and we have shared their stories. These human connections have made our children more understanding of the world around them and provided the experience of empathy and compassion mixed with action.
